Sir,
I have the honour to enclose an application from Mr. Chaloner Grenville Alabaster, K.C., 0.B.E., J.P.,
that his name should be put forward as a candidate for a Judicial Post in the Straits Settlements and Federated Malay States in view of the possibility of vacancies occurring in the near future: and to recommend his application for your
favourable consideration.

Lir. Alabaster attaches to his application the
necessary particulars of his life and services. It will
be noted that he has officially been connected with this Government as Acting Attorney General and as a Member of the Executive and Legislative Councils for several periods
during his career, and that in addition to revising the Ordinances of the Colony (for which he received the thanks
of the Legislative Council in 1913) his services have been
continuously at the disposal of the Government and of the
public in many different capacities on the Licensing
Board, and the Sanitary Board; as Cable Censor during the
first three years of the War and as Chairman of the Hong
Kong Publicity Bureau.
